In recognition that there was a need to collaboratively research, plan,
co-ordinate and fund early childhood development initiatives in the Surrey/White Rock area, the Office of Early Childhood Development, Learning, and Care was established in January 2006. This jointly funded office was created by the Early Childhood Partners in conjunction with the Surrey-White Rock, Make Children First Initiative to lead this work.
In 2006, recognizing that support to children in the middle childhood years from 6 – 12 was also critical, the United Way created the Middle Childhood Initiative, which created the Middle Childhood Matters Steering Committee. The Office of Early Childhood Development, Learning, and Care was asked to coordinate this committee.
In November 2011, the name of the office was changed from The Office of Early Childhood Development, Learning and Care to The Children’s Partnership of Surrey-White Rock, to reflect the focus on both early and middle childhood, as well as the commitment to a collborative approach.
